DESCRIPTION
A collection celebrating an iconic decade of Porsche. Marking the first model year of the coming decade of the 911 G, the 1974 911 G is an icon of the 70s, of good design, and of Porsche. We celebrated this by highlighting our Sahara Beige 911 G 'Buttercup' through an apparel collection that showcased our creative prowess and foray into automotive apparel.
We started by sitting with, in, and documenting photos of this decade's 911s and calling out every iconic feature of our impressive Buttercup. Its impressive interior and exterior colors, materials and finishes were inspiring enough, but we dug deeper, drawing inspiration from things including the VIN plate, the thread colors, and the badges. The long list of inspirations led to a variety of solutions made manifest in the Decades Collection clothing line. The color scheme of Buttercup permeated throughout the collection, offering hits of the car's paint color, Sahara Beige, and the interior colors, brown, beige, and charcoal grey.
Digging into more specifics, we abstracted the backside of Buttercup on the back of the short-sleeved, long-sleeved, and crew sweatshirt, featuring Buttercup's grill and badges, and represented the iconic light bar. We utilize bold, confident typography depicting the "DECADES" montra and the vehicle's year and color codes. A tag, woven to represent the weave of the interior fabric, with red stitching, proudly adorns the front of the garments. The VIN plate was even recreated and depicted as the size label on the inside, below the collar.
In addition to tops, the collection featured two twill 5-panel hats in beige and charcoal, and two woven belts in black and yellow. The color and material study continued as Kevlar, with ties to the automotive world, was chosen for the yellow woven belt, the custom closure at the back of the hats, and the cord used to hold the hang tags to the various articles. The belts also feature a unique and premium magnetic fidlock clasp. With reference to Porsche's racing heritage, the hats are embroidered with logos all over, like sponsor logos that cover race cars.
All fine details were considered in developing the DECADES Collection. The clothing racks the collection was displayed on, and the edges of the hang tags are sprayed yellow to match Buttercup. The space and shelves were adorned with automotive memorabilia. The apparel all came with hand-numbered Sahara Beige stickers stuck to premium packaging and take-home decals, all hand-assembled in person.
